Originally from New England, Mike McKenna is the Executive Director for The Chamber and an award-winning journalist. Mike first moved to the Wood River Valley in 1996 and worked in the restaurant and landscaping fields before following his writing career onto New Hampshire and California.
Mike returned to the Wood River Valley in 2010 after being recruited to become the managing editor for Sun Valley Magazine. Mike’s writing and editing work for that and other publications has won numerous national and regional awards. This includes Mike’s first two books, Angling Around Sun Valley, and his his recently released second book, Casting Around the Eastern Sierra, both being honored with Best Book of the Year awards.
Mike was a member of The Chamber’s Board of Directors for several years before being asked to become Executive Director. Over the last couple of decades, Mike has served on the boards of a wide variety of non-profit organizations. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Wood River Baseball and Softball Association and has been appointed to the Hailey Tree Committee.
When he’s not working, Mike can usually be found biking, coaching youth sports like baseball and hockey, and fishing or Nordic skiing around the Wood River Valley. He usually enjoying these activities with his wife, Brooke, and their two young sons and fifth generation Idahoans, Jack and Sam.
